Ready in about 20 minutes, they feature a golden, crunchy crust with melty cheese and customizable fillings, making them perfect for busy weeknights or casual dinners.

Ingredients

Base Ingredients

  • Pizza dough: Fresh or store-bought, enough for 4 small circles (6-7 inches each)
  • Mozzarella cheese: 1 to 1½ cups shredded
  • Marinara sauce: ½ cup
  • Olive oil: 1 to 2 tablespoons for brushing
  • Italian seasoning: 1 teaspoon for sprinkling

Fillings (Choose your favorites)

  • Pepperoni: ½ cup sliced
  • Olives: ¼ cup sliced
  • Mushrooms: ½ cup sliced
  • Spinach: ½ cup fresh or wilted
  • Optional variations: cooked sausage, bacon, roasted peppers, onions, jalapeños, pepper jack cheese, cheddar or feta cheese blend

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough: Roll out your pizza dough into small circles about 6-7 inches in diameter, ensuring an even thickness for consistent cooking.
  2. Add the fillings: Spread a spoonful of marinara sauce on half of each dough circle, then layer in your chosen fillings and a generous handful of shredded mozzarella.
  3. Fold and seal: Fold the dough over the fillings to create a half-moon shape, then press the edges firmly together to seal, using a fork to crimp the edges for extra security.
  4. Brush and season: Lightly brush the outside of each calzone with olive oil and sprinkle with Italian seasoning for enhanced flavor and a crisp crust.
  5. Air fry to perfection: Place the calzones in the air fryer basket and cook at 380°F (193°C) for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.

Notes

  • Don’t overfill the calzones to prevent leakage during cooking.
  • Make sure each calzone is roughly the same size for uniform cooking.
  • Use parchment paper to line the air fryer basket to prevent sticking and ease cleanup.
