Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup buttermilk, at room temperature
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Strawberry Glaze

  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Prepare the batter: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt. In another bowl, combine the buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth. Gradually mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring just until combined to maintain lightness.
  2. Fill the donut pan: Transfer the batter into a piping bag or use a spoon to fill a greased or nonstick donut pan about ¾ full, leaving room for the batter to rise evenly.
  3. Bake the donuts: Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 12-15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean and the donuts spring back when lightly pressed. Cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  4. Prepare the strawberry glaze: Blend the fresh strawberries until smooth. Strain if desired for a smoother consistency. Whisk the strawberry puree with powdered sugar until the glaze is smooth and pourable with a balance of sweetness and tartness.
  5. Glaze the donuts: Dip the tops of the cooled donuts into the strawberry glaze, letting excess drip off. Place them back on the wire rack to set. Optionally, garnish with chopped strawberries or edible flowers for extra flavor and visual appeal.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the batter to keep the donuts tender and airy.
  • Use room temperature eggs and buttermilk for a smooth batter.
  • Choose fresh, ripe strawberries for the best glaze flavor.
  • Allow donuts to fully cool before glazing to maintain the glaze’s shine.
  • Store donuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
