Ingredients

Scale

Steak

  • Sirloin or ribeye steak, about 1 lb
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Cowboy Butter Sauce

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh chives, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme leaves, chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice

Assembly

  • 8 slider buns, soft and small
  • Optional toppings: caramelized onions, pickles, cheese (such as pepper jack or sharp cheddar)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Steak: Trim any excess fat from the steak and season generously with salt and black pepper. Let it rest at room temperature for about 10 minutes to ensure even cooking.
  2. Make the Cowboy Butter Sauce: In a small bowl, combine softened butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, chives, thyme, and fresh lemon juice. Mix until smooth and set aside to let the flavors meld.
  3. Sear the Steak: Heat a cast-iron skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Sear the steak for 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare, or longer if you prefer well done. Remove from heat and let rest for 5 minutes to lock in the juices.
  4. Slice the Steak: Slice the rested steak thinly against the grain to ensure tenderness in every bite.
  5. Assemble the Sliders: Lightly toast the slider buns to add crunch and warmth. Spread a generous amount of cowboy butter on both sides of each bun, layer on the sliced steak, and add any preferred optional toppings.

Notes

  • Choose fresh, high-quality steak cuts like sirloin or ribeye for the best flavor and texture.
  • Allow steak to rest after cooking to keep it juicy and tender.
  • Use softened butter for easy mixing and even spreading in the cowboy butter sauce.
  • Keep herbs fresh to maintain brightness in flavor; avoid dried herbs unless necessary.
  • Toast the buns to prevent sogginess and add a pleasing texture.
