Ingredients

Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 cup warm water (about 110°F / 43°C)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

Garlic Parmesan Butter Topping

  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 3 cloves fresh garlic, minced or pressed
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: Dissolve the active dry yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy. In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt, then slowly add in the yeast mixture along with melted butter. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  2. Knead and Let Rise: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and allow it to rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
  3. Shape the Knots: Punch down the risen dough and divide into small equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope about 6 inches long, then tie each rope into a loose knot and pinch the ends to seal.
  4. Bake to Golden Perfection: Place the knots on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
  5. Coat with Garlic Parmesan Butter: While the knots bake, melt butter and mix it with minced garlic and freshly grated Parmesan. As soon as the knots come out of the oven, generously brush them with the garlic Parmesan butter and sprinkle with chopped parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Proof Your Yeast: Ensure your yeast is active by checking it bubbles when mixed with warm water and sugar.
  • Knead Well: Proper kneading is essential to develop gluten for airy and soft knots.
  • Don’t Overbake: Watch the knots closely so they stay tender inside and do not dry out.
  • Use Fresh Garlic: Fresh garlic provides a brighter, more pronounced flavor than powders.
  • Brush Butter Immediately: Brush the garlic Parmesan butter right after baking so it melts and soaks in perfectly.
