  • 1/2 cup heavy cream or sour cream

  • Optional: 1/4 cup white wine or broth

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Ingredients: Clean and slice mushrooms evenly for uniform cooking. Mince the garlic, finely chop shallots or onions, and chop fresh herbs for easy access.
  2. Sauté Mushrooms and Aromatics: Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat until melted. Add mushrooms and cook 5-7 minutes until they release their juices and turn golden brown. Add shallots and garlic, cooking until fragrant and softened without browning.
  3. Deglaze and Simmer: Optional: Pour in white wine or broth and scrape brown bits from the pan to add flavor. Let the liquid reduce slightly.
  4. Add Cream and Herbs: Lower heat and stir in heavy cream or sour cream. Add fresh thyme or parsley. Simmer until sauce thickens to desired consistency. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Final Touches: Stir once more, adjust seasoning as needed, and remove from heat. The mushroom sauce is ready to serve.
