Ingredients

Scale

Protein

  • 8 oz flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain

Vegetables

  • 1 each red, green, and yellow bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, freshly minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, minced

Sauce & Seasoning

  • 3 tbsp soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper, freshly cracked
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup beef broth

Cooking Oil

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Thinly slice the flank steak against the grain for tenderness. Thinly slice the bell peppers and onion into strips. Mince fresh garlic and ginger, then set all ingredients aside within easy reach.
  2. Marinate the Steak: In a bowl, mix soy sauce, black pepper, and cornstarch. Toss the sliced steak in this mixture and let it marinate for 10-15 minutes to enhance flavor and tenderness.
  3. Cook the Steak: Heat vegetable oil in a large pan or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated steak and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned yet juicy. Remove steak from the pan and set aside.
  4. Stir Fry the Vegetables: In the same pan, add a little more oil if necessary. Stir-fry the onions, garlic, ginger, and bell peppers for 4-5 minutes until tender-crisp while maintaining their vibrant color and crunch.
  5. Combine and Finish: Return the cooked steak to the pan. Pour in beef broth and add a splash more soy sauce. Stir and cook until the sauce thickens slightly, glazing the meat and vegetables. Finish with freshly cracked black pepper to taste.

Notes

  • Have all ingredients pre-cut before cooking to maintain quick stir-fry pace.
  • Use high heat to ensure a good sear and retain the steak’s juices.
  • Avoid overcrowding the pan; cook in batches if needed to prevent steaming.
  • Marinating the steak briefly enhances both flavor and tenderness.
  • Use freshly cracked black pepper for maximum aroma and a signature spicy kick.
