Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh broccoli florets (firm, bright green)
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • Optional: 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder or 1 clove minced garlic

Instructions

  1. Preheat Your Oven: Set your oven to 425°F (220°C) to ensure it’s hot enough to crisp the broccoli without drying it out, which helps to caramelize the edges while keeping the stalks tender.
  2. Prepare the Broccoli: Wash and thoroughly dry your broccoli florets. Removing excess moisture helps the broccoli crisp up instead of steaming in the oven.
  3. Toss with Oil and Seasoning: In a large bowl, drizzle the olive oil over the broccoli and season with sea salt, freshly ground black pepper, and optional garlic powder or minced garlic. Toss everything until each piece is evenly coated for consistent roasting.
  4. Arrange on Baking Sheet: Spread the broccoli florets in a single layer on a baking sheet, ensuring some space between each piece to allow hot air circulation for even roasting.
  5. Roast Until Golden and Crisp: Place the baking sheet in the oven and roast for 20 to 25 minutes. Toss or flip the broccoli halfway through (around 10–12 minutes) to ensure uniform browning and crispiness on all sides.
  6. Serve Warm: Once the broccoli has tender stalks and crispy browned edges, remove from the oven and serve immediately or let cool slightly if adding garnishes or dressing.

Notes

  • Dry Thoroughly after washing to prevent steaming and promote crispiness.
  • Do Not Overcrowd the baking sheet to allow even roasting and crispy edges.
  • Use High Heat (425°F/220°C) to caramelize and lock in flavor.
  • Flip Halfway (10–12 minutes) for even browning.
  • Customize seasoning with herbs like thyme or rosemary, or add red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
  • Reheat in oven or toaster oven at 375°F (190°C) for 5-7 minutes to restore crispiness instead of microwaving.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • When freezing, spread florets out first to freeze individually before transferring to a freezer bag to help maintain texture.
