Ingredients

Scale

Core Ingredients

  • 2 ripe bananas (well-mashed)
  • 1/4 cup toasted sesame seeds
  • 3/4 cup oats or rolled oats
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional Add-Ins

  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds or flaxseeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg, or ginger powder (optional)
  • 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips or cocoa nibs (optional)
  • 1 scoop protein powder (optional)

Variations

  • Sunflower seeds instead of sesame seeds for nut-free version
  • Maple syrup instead of honey for vegan version

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bananas: Mash your ripe bananas thoroughly in a large bowl until smooth and creamy. Well-mashed bananas ensure a better texture and help everything stick together easily.
  2. Toast the Sesame Seeds: Gently toast the sesame seeds in a dry skillet over medium heat for a few minutes until golden and fragrant. Toasting enhances their nutty flavor and adds crunch.
  3. Combine Dry Ingredients: Mix the toasted sesame seeds, oats, chia or flaxseeds, any additional spices, chocolate chips, or protein powder in a separate bowl to evenly distribute all the dry ingredients.
  4. Mix Wet and Dry: Add honey (or maple syrup) and vanilla extract to the mashed bananas, then fold in the dry ingredients. Stir until the mixture sticks together but remains slightly sticky for shaping.
  5. Shape the Bites: Using your hands or a cookie scoop, form small bite-sized balls or bars. Place them on a lined tray or plate ready for chilling.
  6. Chill and Set: Refrigerate the Banana Sesame Bites for at least 30 minutes to firm up. This helps them hold their shape and makes them easier to enjoy on the go.

Notes

  • Use ripe bananas with lots of brown spots for natural sweetness and easier mashing.
  • Always toast sesame seeds to bring out their full flavor instead of using them raw.
  • Adjust the amount of honey or syrup depending on your taste and the ripeness of your bananas.
  • Use a cookie scoop to create uniform bite sizes and speed up the chilling process.
  • Store bites in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.
